FIRST BUSES AT THE TOP OF WORCESTER BUS STATION
Worcester is a cathedral city and the county town of Worcestershire. The city has a main bus station, Crowngate Bus Station, located within the Crowngate Shopping Centre. All of the city's bus services serve Crowngate Bus Station.
The main operator in Worcester is First Midland Red from their Worcester depot on Padmore Street, which was opened in June 1928 by Birmingham & Midland Motor Omnibus Company, which later became known as Midland Red. Midland Red then became nationalised in 1968 and became the largest subsidiary of the National Bus Company. In 1981, when Midland Red was split into 5 different companies ready for privatisation, Worcester depot came under Midland Red West, which was sold in 1986 in a management buyout. They were later bought out by Badgerline, who in 1995 merged with GRT Group to from FirstGroup, who own First Midland Red and still are the main operator in Worcester.
